Guys Facing Up to the Effects of Aging

Guys Facing Up to the Effects of Aging

The web is filled with articles and promos advertising ways for women to reverse the aging process and different techniques and technologies to do so some invasive, others not —from full facelifts, to acid peels, to a tidal wave of creams claiming to give the same results. However, what about guys? They also look in the mirror and have that sinking feeling that the face staring back is dropping, sagging, showing sun damage, or just life’s creases and time lines. The aging process is most noticed on the face, so there is nothing shameful for men to also want to look younger and feel better about themselves!

The Statistics
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) 2016 statistics are an interesting reflection of the difference between the popularity of both surgical and nonsurgical beauty-enhancing and age-defying procedures among men and women. A general trends that comes to light is that 2016 saw chemical peels become one of the most popular procedures for men, joining Botox, Hylauronic Acid, Hair Removal and Photorejuvenation as their nonsurgical procedures of choice.

Surgical Cosmetic Procedures
Taking a closer look at the gender distribution of common surgical cosmetic procedures shows that women had more than 1.7 million procedures in 2016, 91% of the total; liposuction is again the most popular surgical procedure for both men and women; men had close to 200,000 surgical procedures, 9.3% of the total; and Male Breast Reduction for the treatment of Gynecomastia (a common disorder of the endocrine system in which there is a non-cancerous increase in the size of male breast tissue) has risen by 181% since ASAPS initiated its survey in 1997.

As far as facelifts go, 107,261 women had facelifts (88.7%) compared to 13,702 men (11.3%); and 23,366 women (78.7%) had neck lift surgery compared to 6,319 men (21.3%). In total, 1,795,081 women (90.7%) had surgical procedures and 184,515 men (9.3%). Clearly, men are either afraid to go under the knife or the concept for men is not yet mainstream.

Nonsurgical Cosmetic Procedures
As far as Gender Distribution for Nonsurgical Injectable Cosmetic Procedures goes, Botulinum Toxin (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, etc.) was most popular among men and women, however 6,673,944 (91.1%) women underwent procedures compared to just 651,211 (8.9%) men. Of all Skin Rejuvenation procedures, 2,607,501 (92.4%) were performed on women, while only 213,720 (7.6%) were performed on men. Both sexes preferred Photorejuvenation (IPL) — 596,423 (90.8%) women and 4 60,749 (9.2%) men. Of all skin rejuvenation techniques, 2,607,501 (92.4%) patients were women and 213,720 (7.6%) were men.

Other Nonsurgical Procedures
The “other procedures” category, which includes Nonsurgical Fat Reduction, Sclerotherapy, Tattoo Removal, and Hair Removal (laser or pulsed light) showed the latter as the procedure most preferred by both women — 910,224 (87.9%) and men — 125,560 (12.1%).

Conclusion
What the results show is that far more women are prepared to resort to drastic measures to improve their looks, which men tend to shy away from —whether out of embarrassment or due to the stereotype that beauty care and anti-aging are women’s domains. Nevertheless, it is apparent that men are increasingly worried about the way they look. Trends show this — one just has to google anti-aging products for men to see how many brands are targeting this niche market.

Let’s face it, when it comes to restoring your skin there are plenty of options out there. One thing that men should note is that while there are many non-invasive devices claiming to provide antiaging results from a facelift to wrinkle reduction, most require frequent, expensive, and perhaps embarrassing visits to beauty clinics or professionals.

For these reasons and many more, Sensica’s medical esthetics experts developed the FDA-cleared, non-invasive Sensilift device. Sensilift takes the technical abilities of salon treatments and packages them into a handheld device designed to offer the todays busy man an option to perform his anti-aging beauty regimen in the comfort of his own home, at a time of his convenience, and without spending a fortune on repeated salon visits. The device, which is based on the very unique system of Dynamic RF anti-aging technology to reach wider and deeper skin layers simultaneously. It reduces wrinkles, improves the skin’s appearance and texture, and provides a feeling of firmness, tightening it all up. The device is extremely safe thanks to sensors that continuously react to the skin’s condition with every single flash, and is virtually painless. Another bonus is that it’s intuitive to use and provides the feeling of having a spa massage. Call it the no risk, no surgery, no pain, and no embarrassment facelift that simply works!
