It’s a Smooth Summer

It’s a Smooth Summer

Summer’s here and it’s time to show off some skin. However, Santana and Rob Thomas’ summer hit “Smooth” takes on a whole new meaning for men and women when you’re sitting in your bather in the glaring sun and stare down mortified as you notice patches of hair sprouting from hard-to-reach places you clearly missed during your hair removal routine, or ask a friend to rub sunscreen on your back and hear them groan audibly. Summer can therefore also a painful (and annoying) time as you have to be fully groomed far more often than in winter. Whatever hair removal method you use, there is always more to learn and new and improved ones to try. Here are solutions for every type of hair removal so you can choose the method which suits you best.
1. Shaving
Thanks to razors like Gillette’s Venus Swirl Flexiball Women’s Razor you can get a pretty accurate shave. This razor has taken manual shaving to a new level. It is also equipped to handle hard-to-reach, contour tricky areas like ankles and knees and has a water-activated MoistureGlide serum for a super smooth shave without needing shaving cream.

2. Hair Removal Cream
Believe it or not, Veet Hair Removal Cream is still on the market after all these years and still leads among hair removal creams. This is probably the least expensive and least painful way to rid yourself of hair and get a smooth silky skin within minutes. The cream is enriched with lotus milk for hydrating the skin. Just remember, hair grows back as if you’re shaved it (i.e. prickly). However, the effect lasts longer than shaving as hair in shaving is removed just from the surface, while the cream works close to the root.

3. Waxing
Attempting DIY waxing is a sticky business and can cause damage if you don’t know what you’re doing, such as burns from overheated wax. You may try Veet’s Professional Stripless Warm Wax, which at least comes with a specially designed spatula telling you when the wax is at the right temperature. Having said that, waxing is probably best left up to the professionals. The upside of waxing is solid long-term results; the downside is costly and repeated visits to clinics and …. pain!

4. Laser
Laser is still a popular permanent hair removal option especially for men as it is especially effective in reducing hair on the chest, stomach, back, and shoulders. There are several kinds of technologies that use laser light energy to penetrate the hair shaft and kill the hair at the root, however it doesn’t destroy the hair follicle — it just makes re-growth difficult, hence the effects last a fairly long time. The downside is costly and repeated visits to clinics. Also, for private areas this could be embarrassing.

5. DIY Laser
Instead of costly, time-eating, and sometimes embarrassing visits to clinics, one can opt for DIY laser solutions that can be used at a time of your convenience and from the comfort of your own home. sensiLight Mini, for example, offers an excellent line of professional-grade, non-invasive, home-use hair removal devices that have permanent results. The line is based on Sensica’s cutting-edge, FDA-cleared Reactive Pulsed Light (RPL) technology that disables hair re-growth at the root using light and heat. Additionally, Sensilight Mini is affordable, easy-to-use and painless!

5. Care
Last, but not least, regular exfoliation should be a part of your healthy skin regimen no matter the season and no matter what hair-removal solution you’re going for this summer to keep your skin looking smooth, healthy, glowing and youthful. Do it with care though and in advance of hair removal treatments to slough off the layer of dead skin cells without stripping the skin. You will also need to stay out of the sun or heat for at least 48 hours after most hair-removal processes and moisturize to protect newly exposed and vulnerable follicles to avoid sun irritation. Also, once you have the perfect silky skin for sunny days at the beach or poolside, don’t forget to protect it with a good sunscreen!
